I don't usually send out a blog twice in a week...but I have some fabulous pictures to share with you of our BigDraw at Jericho Beach. Thank you to all the parents who came and helped walk and supervise and encourage the kids. They were sooo well behaved and made some wonderful art in the sand. Enjoy the pictures!

Good Morning Everyone!
Welcome to our blog!!!
To all my new parents...I try very hard to do the blog on Sunday mornings...but sometimes I just get started on something else...exercise, baking, walking, enjoying the sunshine and it slips my mind till later on in the day...but you will know when Im done when I send you an email..then you can read at your leisure! Forgive me for my spelling mistakes in advance and my lack of computer skills...I am creative...but computers are my achilles!!With that....

Thank you to everyone who came to our open house at the school on Thursday. I completely and totally understand those who could not make it...often sports and other commitments take a presidence....but always know that you are able to pop in and say hi anytime you would like in the mornings. As I have said before i am an early bird who gets to the school by 700am...the only day that might be an issue is Thursdays as we often have our school meetings then. If you have a concern or question, you can always email me and I will respond as quickly as possible. I tend to leave shortly after 300, but if it is a concern, I will always have time to talk to you!

We had a fun and busy week last week.
On Monday we talked about Beeing Fair, safe and kind.
On Wednesday we read the book "Hurray for me" and we wrote about why we were so special...our little pictures and our stories are inside the classroom for you to see.
On Thursday the children had the opportunity to be with Mr. A while I taught art to his class. They are working on social studies focusing in on themselves as part of the community! Then they got to sing!!! So much fun.
Also on Thursday we went over to our garden (which is at the church across the street) and we harvested the tomatoes that the students from last year had planted. They were soo delicious. We talked about harvesting, and then we looked at the insides of a tomato and were scientists drawing and labelling the different parts. I was very proud of the children as even those who did not like tomatoes...did lick them. We try to encourage trying  the things that we plant!!

We spent some time talking about whole body listening. It is not just give me five...but it is also listening with your heart and your brain. A quick work sheet that they did was sent home on Friday. Talk to your child about how we listen with all these parts. I told them they should be listening like that at home too!

That is just a little snapchat of what we did....also on our list was:
math, writing, reading, dance, art and gym!!!

We have been very very busy!!

Things that will be happening next week:
1) On Monday we will be walking Jericho Beach to participate in the BIG DRAW. We will be facilitated by a VSB Staff named Phyllis Shwartz who is excited to be sharing her passion with us and with Ms. Jung's class. We will be leaving the school at 1000am and hope to be back at the school by noon. Thank you to all the parents who will be walking with us. Please remember to sign the media release form and return it to me as well. This is important as there will be pictures taken of the children at the beach and possibly published in a vancouver school board blog (no names of the children will be attached).

2) On Tuesday the children will be having library book exchange with Ms. Whitelaw. If they have taken books out already, please have them return them to the classroom. There is a container right outside the classroom for them to put the books into. That way they will be able to take out more books for their reading enjoyment!!

3)On Wednesday the cooking program continues. Last week the grade ones made applesauce with our cooking moms and the applesauce that they made will be used for the grade twos cooking class. Please remember to send the 20 dollars to help facilitate the program. Thank you.

4) On Thursday....(as well as Tuesdays) it is Off to A Running Start....you can drop the backpacks off upstairs and then meet in the carpeted area for our run around the block. We are always looking for parents to stand on the corners to cheer their children on as well as to keep them safe!

5) Then on Friday we will be very physically active. We will be dancing with Lisa in the carpeted area. She is an amazing creative dance teacher who has been working with the children teaching them many techniques of dance....place, height, pattern , working in small groups to choreagraph their own little dances. Everything that they learn will be put together for a presentation in December. Our class is sooo creative!

Also on Friday we will be walking to Jericho Beach to participate in the annual Terry Fox Run. We will have a small warm up and then run for 30 minutes to show our support. The children have been asked to bring in a loonie or a toonie (or more) as we are taking up a collection to give to the Terry Fox Fund for cancer research. Thank you to the children who have already given very generous donations to the cause.

With that ...have a great weekend and I will see everyone back to school on Monday.
Enjoy the pictures!!!
