Hi Parents,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend thus far!!
I know sleeping while the rain drops fall is soo peaceful and calming!
This is a short blog with some lovely pictures the children with one of their Earth day posters. We have celebrated Earth Day all week in all the activities that we did. We wrote about the Earth, read stories, independently read passages, drew pictures, painted pictures, planted inside and out and just had so much fun loving our Earth!
Enjoy the pictures.
Remember that tomorrow is a professional day for teachers. Do not send your child to school! I will see everyone on Tuesday!
Take care,
teri

Good morning!
I think its' sunscreen weather now!!
What a shift!! Just a few weeks ago I was saying, make sure you wear your raingear and boots and jackets..now its the shift to..please put sunscreen on your child before they come to school.Send your child with a sunhat and make sure that your child has their water bottle here. They are always able to refill their waterbottles at our sink, so there is plenty of time for hydration during these next hot days!!
We have enjoyed the sunshine by going outside to observe some plants. We made detailled, scientific drawings of rhubarb, apple trees with blossoms, raspberry and blackberry plants and finally grape vines. We talked about what all these plants need to survive. We spent one afternoon looking at the magical dandelion and all their parts...and tomorrow we will be learning why it is indeed a magical plant. We spent time learning about the onion and the health benefits of them and then went and planted another pot full of onion bulbs. The garden outside of our classroom is growing so nicely!! It would have been nice to have a stand up box garden, but alas it didnt happen so the small containers are working just fine!!
This last week we had a virtual firehall trip. Kelsey did a fantastic job of showing us around the ubc firestation. She shared some very important information with us and gave the children plenty of opportunities to ask questions. They brought home some paperwork that was sent to us. Ask your child the two things that Kelsey asked them to share with you (clue) firealarms and meeting place...in the event they need a gentle reminder!! haha
we spent a little time talking about Earth Day and that conversation will continue all next week until Earth Day, which is officially on April 22nd.
On April 22nd we will be planting our fast growing plants and see how fast different plants actually grow. And then likely we will be transplanting those as well. If you have any strawberry or tomatoe or cookie containers that are plastic and you want to get rid of them...(these are the ones that have a hinge and close down) then i would love those too. They make great little mini greenhouses!I have two..i need 16more haha.
Last week we had our pictures taken...sooo adorable! We were done before recess, so most faces were very clean!! No peanutbutter lips!!
And with that...
have a great week...i love seeing pictures that you send to me..thank you to Ty who showed me a picture of him and his onions!
I hope you like the pictures i share with you!

Good Morning everyone!I hope everyone is enjoying some of this crazy spring weather. Yesterday in one day, in a matter of one hour we had extreme wind, some hail, some snow, some rain and then ending the day with sunshine. If one is outside it is difficult to know what to wear! My hair was in a mass of knots after all that!! But it sure was fun!
We have been enjoying this spring weather and all the changes and have taken the opportunity to get outside whenever we can to observe the changes that the Spring weather is bringing for us. On Tuesday we looked at a few plants just on the periphery of the portables. The children were invited to sketch two plants of their choice. They could choose to draw the blackberry bush, the raspberry plants, the grapevine, the apple trees in blossom or the rhubarb plant. I had the children sit around the rhubarb plant and really take a look at how it grows. It is a very interesting plant where the stem is the edible part, much like the celery. I told them also that the leaf of the rhubarb is toxic and that they should never put anything into their mouths unless their parents okay it first. I have rhubarb starting to grow in my yard and I will bring some in once it gets mature and send some home for you and your child to try. They were pretty excited about that!
WE have been doing a lot of plant science and will continue to do this for the next few months. We have been watching our plants grow inside. The potato plant is huge and is following the sunshine. On Friday we hilled it. Ask your child what that means.
In other news....The grade twos are really coming along at adding double digits where they need to carry the one. They think its easy!! and FUN!! Meanwhile the grade ones are learning that two parts of a number equals the whole...and they are also loving math!! We write every day in one form or another. This week we were writing lots of things to do about rain!! We have started a poetry unit and all wrote rain poems. WE did some descriptive writing about rain and read a lovely book about the Umbrella by Jan Brett. The children brought home their Jan Brett Author study on Friday. Hopefully you had a chance to take a look at it and see how their writing has improved!
Finally just a few reminders: 1) we will be having individual pictures this Friday, they will be outside. 2) I have requested a virtual FireHall tour so that will be happening on Friday as well. 3) I will not be at school on Tuesday, we will be having a guest teacher, please go over respectful behaviours with our guest teachers 4) Please send in your egg carton and your seeds by April 22nd.
And with that..enjoy the numerous pictures. I love taking them and they love having them taken.
See you all tomorrow.
Enjoy your sunday!
