Good Morning everyone....
The rain has stopped, the rain has stopped!
Quickly, get outside and play before it starts again!!!!
As you can see, I am waterlogged!!!
I will be spending as much time as I can outside, we can talk about the sunshine tomorrow!
Tomorrow will be the first of May. So happy last day of April to everyone.
We have had a great April and I hope that our May is as wonderful.
This week brought us more of Deana our first nations worker. We learned about Button Blankets and started our own little piece of a blanket. Wow, the children sure were good needle threaders and sewers.
This week we had a performance called Infinitus. A three piece string band- a cello player, a violinist and a viola player. They were amazing.
We worked on our third Newton's Law---for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction.
We did simile poetry in the library and then wrote some beautiful I am....poetry in the classroom and created beautiful art work around it. They are displayed in the hallway. Absolutely moving I am sentences!

This next week brings us some very important things to make note of:
1) On Wednesday I have an appointment, so there will be a TOC in. Please talk to your children about proper behavior when we have guest teachers in the classroom. Thank you.

2) On Thursday it is the district Earthquake Drill. The children will have a long wait outside. Please make sure they have the appropriate clothing for an outside drill of a lengthy time. They will be bringing their back packs outside, so they are invited to put in a few items that will keep them entertained like books, cards, drawing books and pens. Nothing electronic please. Also this is the day when a group of parents will go through the appropriate procedures of picking up their children and signing all the proper forms. If you would like to be a part of this emergency release please let me know and I will let the office know. It is important at this time to really think of who is on your pick up list on your child's emergency forms. We are told that no child will be released to anyone who is not on their contact list. So please make sure your list is up to date!

3) On Friday we are going on a field trip to Granville Island. We will be going to the Arts Umbrella. The field trip is free and is always a wonderful experience for the children. Please sign the form that I sent out on Friday. I do need drivers, but only two volunteers to stay with me. Jo (Casper's mom has already volunteered to stay) so I only need one more person to stay at the center...but many drivers to drive and pick up. So let me know if you can help! I appreciate it.

For our Tuesday's experiment on forces I need children to bring a piece of cardboard. It can be the side of a cereal box. About 8 x 10 inches is great.
Thank you
Have a great day, and enjoy the pictures.

Good Morning Everyone,
We had a great week last week!
It was full of action and activities as you will see by the pictures.
We are continuing with our Forces unit and are looking at pulls and pushes and are reinforcing Newton's first and second laws by doing many hands on activities. We joined Ms. Applebees class to make the three little piggy houses , one out of paper and tape, one out of wooden blocks etc, and one out of straws and foil and clay. Then Ms. Applebee and myself tried to blow them down!! The children worked in cooperative groups between the classrooms and really showed ingenuity and creativity in their structures. They are very much enjoying this hands on unit. We have more experiments planned!! If anyone has the little water balloons at home that they might want to share...we could use about 50 for our next experiment.

This last week also brought a visit from Ashley Spires. The children were very enthused by practicing her style of drawing and have spent much of their free time drawing just like her. I particularly enjoyed their sketches of the doggy and his pee puddles..hahaha... On this day many of the children came dressed up as a book character. It was a fun day.

On Friday we also had a visit in by Nikoo from SPEC. She came in and we transplanted some broccoli, kale, and brussel sprouts out in our garden. WE also hilled our spuds and thank you to Matt for taking it out to our garden outside. We spent this time also talking about gardens and what we would plant into our dream garden. Their gardens look delicious!

Of course we did lots of art around Earth Day. WE really spent time talking about our lovely Earth and how lucky we are to live on such a wonderful planet. And that it is our job to look after it and care for it! I hope you all had a great EArth Day and did spend some time outside embracing it!

Finally Im just going to throw it out there one more time....
if anyone has a small clean area rug that they would like to donate to our class (around 6 x 5ish) I have a perfect area for it!

Enjoy the pictures and the rest of the weekend!
