Good Morning,
Is that blue sky I see? Yes, it is!! From my window I promise, it is blue sky! Is this wishful thinking? I think all the children and I are turning into little fish, growing gills! Hopefully the sun will come out and stay for a while as I know we could all use a little Vitamin D! Even though there has been a lot of rain, and little outdoor time, the children have been awesome and have been working very hard!!

We started a new science unit and are learning about Forces and Motion. We have joined and will continue joining Mrs. Applebees class to learn about the different forces and participate in many hands on experiences to gather first hand knowledge of these laws. On Friday we talked about Newtons's first law of motion. See if your child can remember the first law...things at rest....(they are to finish the sentence). We then did a few experiments just like Sir Isaac Newton did. They had so much fun! To help us with our second law we are asking every child to bring in a full can. The can we are looking for would be the size of a soup can. All can's will be returned. Please send these cans by Tuesday at the latest.

Also this week we have been writing Poetry. Did you know it is Poetry month around the world? (or maybe just Canada) Im not really sure..hahah. Over the last several months we have been writing different forms of poetry in the library with Ms. Whitelaw. We decided that we would continue writing and appreciating poetry as it fit in so nicely with April being poetry month. So not only have we been memorizing our poems (from a while ago) we have been writing spring senses poetry and rain poetry. The children are asked to used their senses to create their poetry as well as learn to stretch their thoughts using as many creative details as they can. Their poetic words are beautiful. Come in and read them one day!

This week we also had a visit from Deanna, our First Nations Worker. Deanna talked about some of the art forms of the Musqueam people but this time focused on weaving. She showed us many pictures of their beautiful work and then we practiced weaving ourselves. We wove with paper and then we wove little bits of leather into felt. The children were very good weavers and enjoyed and appreciated how difficult it would be to create all the peoples vessels, blankets, mats etc. We sure appreciate having Deanna come in and sharing her knowledge with us!

This week we also had a little bit of a situation. As everyone knows by now Rio fell and broke her arm. She came in and showed the children her beautiful blue cast. It was great to see Rio and know that she was okay. The children all made cards for her and were delighted to see her. We all hope that she will make a speedy recovery and be able to come back to class soon. We miss her big smile and her presence.

With that I hope everyone has a great last day and I will see you for only three days next week.
Remember that Thursday is a professional day
and then it is a four day holiday...Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Cheers
Teri
