Hello hello and welcome to Division 7's BLOG!! Yes I will try to blog every Sunday! Sometimes it doesnt happen, but I try anyway! This blog will try to keep you up to date weekly of what is happening in class, what is needed for your child, reminders, and lots of pictures.I hope you enjoy reading the blog. Share it with your child/children as they also love looking at their pictures of themselves and their friends. One of the main reasons I started this blog was because when my children were young (they are now 23 and 28) I would ask them what they did in school and what they learned and were working on and they would look at me with big eyes and not really know or remember. Thus the blog. Maybe it will help you when it comes to conversations! This week was a busy week for the children and a little bit of a confusing week as well. Why I say confusing is that there were so many rules and expectations and routines to learn. After a summer off of sunshine and playing to start sitting and listening and following expected behaviours was very hard work for some of them. This week we spend a day learning what GIVE ME FIVE means...Ask your child to demonstrate what it means...basically it's when i ask them to go to the carpet I will start counting and by the count of five..they should be sitting on their bottoms, hands in their lap, eyes looking forward to where the teacher is sitting, ears on, ready for listening and instructions and mouths are now shut with no counting. They really tried hard to follow the directions. Many of my last years grade 2 children were excellent rold models in modelling what to do. Thank you Grade 2's. We also learned about Beeing Safe , Fair and Kind. In the classroom, playground and on the bus! We then did some writing and art around this. For our Nature component of our year which will include Gardening and Outdoor Bog and Forest walks...we looked at Kale. We talked about the health benefits of Kale, then we drew the kale that i brought in, we labelled the kale and then we planted the kale. The following day we looked at Kale seeds and planted some seeds as well. This next week, we will look at the cucumber plant. Every week we will do something to do with the outdoors or with our mini garden! The children were really excited when we got to go for a walk and collect some leaves to mulch our kale plants. While outside we NEEDED to climb some trees!! Some excellent pictures of the children climbing! On Friday the children got to meet Mr. Asmoucha. He teaches the grade 4/5 class at Bayview. Since time immemorial we have traded classes. He comes in to do social studies (and pre covid he would do music as well) and I go to his class to teach art (did you know how much i love art???) Mr A did say that the listening wasnt the best. I did have to talk to the children about behaviour with guest teachers. I would appreciate it if you would discuss this with your child. It will help when other guest teachers come in for whatever reason, that the expectations are still the same. Being polite and kind and respectful to all staff members. Thank you! With that I have some reminders: 1) Please send lunches that your child likes to eat and will eat ( I know that sometimes that is difficult) that is healthy. I would so apprciate that chips, chocolates, candy, kool aid, pop be saved for home time. I know that if given the choice between chocolate and an apple most may pick the sweet treat. Unfortunately like a car on empty, the child usually has a tougher time listening and behaving in the afternoon. We still have lots of learning left in the afternoon. At this point I think it's okay not to worry about any peanut allergies, no one has told me, so if peanut butter is something your child likes you can send it in. 2) Please fill out the forms that I sent you in the first week of school so I have all your phone numbers and email information in the classroom. Plus all the helpful information about your child. Thank you to those who already have sent their forms to me. 3) On rainy days the children do go outside, please send them with raingear, rainboots..and shoes for indoors so that they can change out of their rain boots. Also on Friday it was sooo rainy that some children had to change their clothing TWICE. Send them with some changes of socks, pants, a tee shirt, that they can keep in a ziplock bag in their back pack for a quick change. Thank you to all the parents who have sent some soap in. We do wash our hands about three or more times a day. They love to wash their hands when they can use nice smelling soap!! They all smell so good after they wash their hands!! Finally: I would like to introduce two people who you may hear about. One is Paula. Miss Paula will be working in our class to support the students. She will be my right hand lady. So if you hear about Paula that is who she is. She is in our class every day monday to friday from 845 till 245. Also you may hear about a Ms. Rossignol. Ms. Rossignol is our new librarian and our new resource teacher. Some of your children may work with Ms Rossignol for a variety of reasons...might be math, reading or writing. I would let you know if your child would be receiving support. And the last person I would like to introduce you to is Katherine Banno. She is our class rep. She has agreed to support me in sending out extra reminders etc. EAch class has a class representative. Thank you Katherine (She is the mother of the twins Hana and Laurel). And with that...I thank you for reading all of this. Enjoy the pictures. Feel free to write me anytime if you are confused or even if you are not confused and just want to say hi. Take care and have a lovely rainy Sunday. I will see you all on Monday (or your children anyway!) xo Ms. Taylor
