Happy St. Paddy's Day to everyone and a Happy Spring Break as well!
We had the best week last week and it was the best send off for the children. They were awesome and we celebrated their awesome with a little st. paddy's cookie and stories and fun on Friday!! I think they are ready for their holidays where they excitedly told me of their plans. I cant wait to hear and share our stories when we get back!!
Did you know our first day back at school is April fools day??? So do we REAAAAAAAAAAAALLY have to come back??? hmmm

Okay so this week we:
Had Deana in and we talked about noctornul and diurnal animals and what these animals represent to the first nations people.
We wrote Spring poetry in the shape of diamonds..called diamonte poetry. They children learned about nouns, adjectives and ing words (action words). Both these projects had a lot of artwork involved and i will be putting them up for you to see when you return. They are amazing!

On Tuesday we had the UBC students come in and bake bread with the children. I sent home some slices of bread for you and your family to share. Wasn't it delicious? I also sent home a recipe of the bread for you and maybe this might be an activity to do with your children!

We started our spuds in tubs program on Friday. We looked at potatoes. We talked about how they are tubers and not seeds or bulbs. We investigated them by using little magnifying glasses and drew what we saw. Did you know that the potatoes all have eyes and eyebrows?? In the afternoon we planted the spuds in tubs and brought them into the classroom. Thank you Jo for helping us!! I bet we will see things happening when we get back after spring break!!

On Friday I also had the opportunity to talk to the chefs that will be coming in to do the Growing Chef program with the children. I know we have made some popcorn money already thanks to some volunteer parents. So at this time the cost of the program will be 15 dollars per child. ( rather than the 20 dollars that i suggested it might cost at the beginning) If you remember, please send in the money after spring break. I will send out a reminder again when we get back. The money does not go to the chefs but for the gardening supplies and materials that the children will be using. It is a fantastic program and we are lucky to be able to take part in this richness!!

With that,
I have a lot of pictures for you to enjoy!!!

Have a great spring break and I will see you in April!!

Good Morning and happy time change to everyone.
What another lovely day it looks like it will be! I hope everyone was able to bundle up and get some play time in the sunshine yesterday!
A big thank you to all the parents who came in and celebrated their children's work. It was great to see everyone at our conferences. Your children were sooo happy to have you come in and share their worlds with you.

These last few weeks we have started some new topics.
In science we are learning all about the three states of matter and have talked about solids and liquids. We have looked at the properties of these two states of matter and what is different about these two states of matter. The children did some little experiments on them and have enjoyed melting ice ( a solid) and pouring liquids from one container to another to show how a liquid pours but a solid...does not. One of the unique properties of a solid vs a liquid.
We will be doing some more hands on experiments before spring break and then after spring break continue with a bit more.

In Writing we are exploring more types of Poetry and are writing different styles ourselves. Writing Poetry is fun for the children as they can express themselves creatively and actually not have to write as many words to show that they understand the concept. They have done acrostics and free verse. We will be touching on many other kinds over the next few weeks and the children will be coming home with their own home made poetry book for you to enjoy together!

In math we have been measuring. We have started with non-standard tools, then moved to standard measuring (cm and m). We are weighing things in grams, using our balance scale. Soon the children will be bringing their entire package home and you can have them measuring more things around the house...they love it!

It has been a wonderful term. The children have grown so much and I so much enjoy working with them. I cant wait to see what the third term has to bring for us!
Only one week left and it will be spring break for two weeks. I hope everyone enjoys this last week of school and is happy and healthy and then can celebrate their long spring vacation!
Here are some pictures of the children celebrating their learning.
Have a great Sunday!
