Good Morning and welcome back to school,
I heard many wonderful stories of the fun that everyone had over spring break!! Yay! It was great seeing everyone back, ready and eager to work. And work we did...I think we put in two weeks of activities into one!

The children started off the week with writing about spring break as well as planting their spuds with Kelly. The spuds in tubs program was developed to introduce children into the joys of growing ones own food. We have been doing this program in my classroom for about ten years now. We start with planting the spuds in tubs in our classroom and then once they get to be a certain height we transfer the tubs outside to our garden at the church. Then in June we harvest our spuds and have a spud feast. The excitement comes when we find about 100 spuds from 12 initially planted warba seed potatoes. Thank you Kelly!

On Friday we continued our planting by planting tomato seeds, basil and pea seeds in side with Katie and then Nikoo (our Spec coordinator) taking groups of children outdoors to plant lettuce, radish, spinach and...something else??? The children are so excited to be a part of this planting process. If you come into the classroom you will see our new grow light. This was purchased with some of our gala funds. The hope is that the little seeds will grow faster into strong little plants so we can then do the next steps of transplanting into little pots and then into the garden. We will be raising little gardeners before you know it. Helping out the earth and our environment!!! And perhaps less fussy children..hahah...

The entire week was spent writing and reading about spring, working on learning about the spud and the parts of the potato plant as well as being introduced to our new unit that we will be participating in with Mrs. Applebees class. We joined Mrs Applebee to watch Bill Nye, the Science Guy, talk about Forces. Then the children came back to their own classes to write about how they move and how animals move. This is just the beginning of the fun of learning that they will be participating in!

I have added tons of pictures so you can enjoy what I have been enjoying through the week.
Have a great last day of the weekend. I think I see blue sky!!
See you all on Monday!
