In this last blog, I'd also like to tell you a little about what we've been up to on my last couple of days:
-I was sad to not be able to go to the beach last Friday. In hindsight, it didn't rain but the weather just was threatening it most of the morning. I didn't want to walk all the way there and then have it downpour. I hate it when it's iffy like that though. We did manage to have some fun with free play in the classroom (we haven't had time for it in weeks!) and we also did our nature scavenger hunt outside, around the school & McBride Park. They seemed to really like working as a team to find the things on my list.
-Measurement unit in Math is done. They brought their work home today.
-Journals---came home today. Have a look at their first & second entry in September and then flip to the last couple of entries in June. It is a real sweet example of how much they've learned this year. I forgot to tell them today that I wrote a little message on the last page, so maybe you can point it out. Thanks :)
-Another super group of readers performed the very last Reader's Theatre play last Tuesday: The Brementown Musicians. Emma, Naomi, Will, Bilal, Simon, Serena, Fletcher & Gavin did a great job with this one where often they had to sing their lines. Our class loved it and so did Ms. Kochan's kindergartens. Did I mention that we inspired some of Ms. Kochan's students and so they practiced and practiced and prepared their very own Reader's Theatre play? Yes! Unfortunately though both the Tuesdays they were going to perform it for us, their main reader was sick so they were unable to show off their work. Oh well....our job was done.
-Please please remind them to READ READ READ everyday during the summer. I know I'll try my hardest to motivate my little Olivia who is just finishing up Gr.1 herself. She fights me on the reading so I must work extra hard to get her on a book. Sometimes putting her on a book read on CD works, sometimes sending her outside with a book to read under a tree works, and sometimes I tell her she must read to me so I can tell her teacher I did my job. They made bookmarks today. They seemed very proud of them. I also sent them a little bag of 'bookworms' to eat after they read a book--one a day hopefully. There are about a dozen bookworms in the bag. So after a couple of weeks, if my motivator worked, maybe you can refill the bags :) They can start Friday I told them....the first official day of holidays for them!! :)
-Today we walked over to our neighbourhood's super HOLLYWOOD THEATRE to watch Mr. Hodson and Divison 5's movie called "The Wishing Well". It was an incredible movie with a few great messages. I liked the riddle: What is priceless and...well I can't remember the whole thing but the answer was LOVE and after the boy answered it, one of the girls got to go over the bridge to make the magical wish to save BAYVIEW school from closing & demolition! It was a super movie and we are so lucky to have such talented students and staff!
Lastly, I'd like to let you know that I won't be team teaching with Ms. Taylor next year. I will still be at Bayview but teaching my own class 3 days a week. I don't have a teaching partner yet. Do come visit me in my new classroom...I think the room number is 106, by the West 7th entrance. So who will be Ms. Taylor's TUESDAY partner you ask? Well it is the fabulous, "Ms. King". I know you will welcome and love Jennifer King. She was one of the Resource Teachers this year. She is also a HUGE fan of Bayview...she even did her practicum here a few years ago. So I pass the torch. Ms. King is very excited to now have the title of "Ms. Taylor's teaching partner".
Once again, THANK YOU for a fabulous year and to some of you thank you for MANY fabulous years in Division 10!
THANK YOU for my gifts--Your generosity and kindness is amazing.
Have a super safe summer! See you in September.
Ebru Montagano
