Sleeping to the pounding rain but waking up to the beautiful sunshine is just the way it should be! That is definitely what spring is all about, changing weather every hour!
On Thursday we talked and wrote about Windy March, how it comes in like a lion..and it surely has been doing that. The children did some amazing writing using descriptive language where we really got the message that the weather was very disruptive (like a lion)...and then the beautiful art that went with it...simply powerful. It is up in the classroom, come in and take a look.
We also wrote some poetry. Every week we work on either reading poetry, sorting poetry or creating our own poetry and so on Wednesday we wrote some poetry on things that we like to eat and why we like to eat it. Again, the power of their words that they are using is brilliant. That is our goal right now, to make readers want to read our writing because it is interesting, not boring and dull. Once again, the art that they did to go along with their writing is beautiful. It is all up int he classroom as well. As we do more and more work, the penguins are going down and the spring stuff is going up...transformation is taking place.
Last week Amy came in and was so impressed with the children's knowledge, participation and with their enthusiasm. She talked about world hunger and how it is different in different areas of the world. She brought in a variety of snacks for the children to sample and some water samples for the children to look at and compare. She wanted me to thank everyone for their contribution to the food bank. Once again, everyone's generosity was staggering. Thank you from Amy and thank you from myself.
This week Nikoo (from Spec) will be coming in to talk to the children about cold crops and about garden designing. Cold crops are plants that you plant directly into the garden right now. Small groups of children will go out with Nikoo (and hopefully Angela) and plant things like kale, peas, broccoli and cabbage. Meanwhile the other children will be designing their ideal, imaginary garden. We have definitely been learning lots about gardening with Nikoo coming in. Soon we will be planting our Spuds in Tubs, and starting our little seeds inside. Before you know it our classroom will not only be growing minds and knowledge but a lot of little plants as well.
This Friday is our last day of school before Spring Break. I hope everyone has a great rest and goes off and enjoys some time together. My daughter (Abby) and I are off for her graduation present. We are going to Greece and also to Russia to visit relatives. I am nervously excited as I have never been to Europe before! Will have many stories to share with everyone!
With that,
have a great day and a wonderful week...enjoy the pictures.
