Hello parents, Im so sorry this is later than I usually send my blog..time just ran away with me. I went for a two hour walk and then got right into my day with cooking and shopping and cleaning and then i looked and thought WHAT? It's almost 4oopm. Does that ever happen to you? I know it happens at school as well, the children are all so busy at play and at work and then I tell them its time to clean up and get ready and they ask..is it lunch? and i tell them..no it's time to go home!! They often look as surprised as I do. And like I say again and again, time flies when you are having fun!! Can you believe that this is the last week of school before Spring Break?? Despite our uncertain times and all the safety measures that we have had to put in place and all the compromises that we have taken, it has simply ran away with us and when people not in school ask me how it is going...i say it is going "GREAT!" And i think it is!! I hope you had the opportunity to look at all the math activities that i sent home with your child last week. By going through all their math you can see how much we do every day and how well they are doing. I also sent home their Bear unit. The children were excited to get this big package and wanted to share all their beautiful work with you!! This coming up week I will be sending home another very large package with your child and basically it is everything else that we have been doing, mostly art. However we still have other portfolios that I will be sending home at the end of the year that also show what we do in class. They are busy little beavers!!! This Tuesday we are so excited to participate in GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY. There is a great deal of research that demonstrates the importance of unstructured, imaginative play as being essential to developing life skills. As an educator, I highly value play. It is a time when students learn to communicate, cooperate, adapt to new situations and problem solve with their peers. These are all the CORE COMPETENCIES of our curriculum. The children are allowed to bring in one toy to play with if they want. But we have plenty here as well. The only restiction is that toys may not require batteries or electricity or no devices. Remember that what you send is the responsibility of your child..so dont send anything that if it gets damaged will be heartbreaking for your child. Part of our day of play will be spent outside, so dress accordingly! This week the children will be participating in another STEM/STEAM challenge. For our STem challenge the children will be focussing on "rainbow bridges" that will hold our pot of gold (pennies).STarting this week we will also be beginning our gardening/planting unit. On Friday we will investigate the potato (SPUD) and plant our spuds in tubs. Last year the children planted the spuds and then Covid hit and we did not get to watch our potatoes grow. This year I hope to watch the growth of this plant. We will plant indoors and then as the plant matures and the weather gets better we will take the plants outdoors. I hope to look at the growth of many different plants and to create some planters outside our door. If you would like to donate any planters, soil, seeds, then we would of course accept your donations. I have plenty of small transplanting pots from my own green house that I will be bringing in. And with that, enjoy the rest of your evening and enjoy the great pictures that are posted. Teri
