What a beautiful sunny day it is today!!!
The birds are chirping and I cant wait to go out and play. I hope everyone will be able to be outside for some fresh air and Vitamin D today!! The children know a lot about Vitamin D and the benefit of the sunshine on their skin. It keeps them feeling healthy and happy. What a nice feeling!!
We had a great week in the classroom this week. The children were energized and worked very hard. We worked on our magnet unit, which is certainly a hit. The children made little mazes for a paper clip to go through and were working on which magnet would take their paper clip through a maze faster, a big magnet or a smaller magnet. During free play, that is their activity of choice!
This week we also worked on reading and rearranging a mixed up poem and then did some beautiful chalk art to go along with it....very very beautiful!! All the grade ones are getting to be such great readers and have their grade two buddy to read to on a daily basis, you can see their great improvement and the grade twos are so wonderful at providing encouragement and advice when they listen to the grade ones. Keep reading, you are all becomming amazing!
Earth Day is next Wednesday and we started a few art projects this week and will be doing some pieces of writing to accompany it next week. In Buddies we created a huge world of hand prints and then also did some writing...that will go up too! On Earth Day the children are encouraged to wear blue and green (Canuck colours...so you can even wear your jersey!!! Very fitting!!) We will be doing some Earth Day activities that day as well.
On Wednesday's Mrs. Montagano has begun teaching the Care Kit. The Care Kit is a VSB sanctioned program which talks about the Body Parts, and how to keep yourself safe. Their first few lessons were on the naming of the body parts using proper language. After the children learn a new concept from Mrs. M she allows them to show their comprehension by doing partner work on the mini tablets. They are so excited when they get to work on this. If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to talk to Mrs. M about it.
On Thursday's Mr. A has begun a study about Canada, after which they have a full blown sing along that I can hear from downstairs. They rock the classroom with their music. Feel free to stand outside the door before lunch to hear their tunes and laughter!
Coming up next week:
1. Tuesdays and Thursdays is Off to a Running start. Drop the back packs off up stairs and go downstairs to line up and wait till the teacher arrives. When the bell goes the children will run. The more parents that are lined up at corners and along the street, the safer it will be for all the children running. If you can spend a little time on either of these days...we all would appreciate it.
2. This Wednesday Earth Day...w.ear blue or green.
3. Also this Wednesday afternoon, Mr. A's class will be presenting a short play to our children. A play that Mr. A has written and directed himself. I ams ure it will be very very very funny!
4. On Thursday afternoon there will be a group in from the Autism foundation who will be doing a puppet presentation on Autism.
With that here's to a wonderful day and I will see you all tomorrow.
Cheers,
Teri
