Good Morning everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! We were fortunate to get more sun than the weather man initially thought, which allowed me to go for a few hikes with my family and even was able to go on a picnic on Sunday up in Squamish! So lovely to still be spending time outdoors with the family!!

We had a great week at school. The children were very settled and as a result had some very productive days. I brought in a pumpkin and we investigated it. We cut the top off and looked at the different parts of a pumpkin then the children were asked to make their own pumpkin out of paper and label all the parts of the pumpkin. Some children even extended their project by writing what the parts of the pumpkins job is. They did a great job! Then we tried a science project that I saw online. It said to some compost into the cut pumpkin and water it and then see if the seeds that are nestled inside the strands of pulp will sprout. That is what we are hoping for. The children started peeking into the pumpkin almost right after we put the soil in. It was very cute. On Friday while the Grade twos were baking their very delicious apple loaf, the grade ones did some writing and reading about what they already knew about pumpkins. Their treat for writing was to create some beautiful water colour paintings of pumpkins afterwards. Better than candy! Next week we will look at the life cycle of a pumpkin.

In Math the Grade ones are looking at numbers to thirty. We are practicing printing our numbers without reversing them to 30. We will be looking at how numbers to 20 are constructed and will be using language like....15 is ten and how many more? If you can work on your numbers at home forwards and backwards to 30 that would be very helpful to your child. The grade twos are looking at numbers to 100. They are working on answering and writing what comes before a number, what comes behind a number. They looked at the greater than, less than symbols on Thursday. For the grade twos to feel comfortable with numbers to 100 forwards and backwards is the goal for the next little while.

In Art we did a directed drawing of a Scarecrow head. Then we used very special watercolour liquids to paint them in. They will be put up in our hallway very soon. They all have their own unique personalities.

In Buddies we have been working with Mr. A's class. Every week we enjoy meeting a new buddy, talking to them, laughing with them and often doing an art project with them. This week we are trying to FALLIFY our hallways. Mrs. Farrel (our acting principal) is very excited to see our beautiful fall leaves.
