Due to the time change, I am up much earlier than usual. How about you? Does this time change have an affect on you or your children?? I remember when my own children were young and how bedtime and wake up times took a long time to get back into synch. I for one would vote, leave the time as it is across Canada. Is it still necessary???? Hmmm...
With that...
We had a wonderful week at school. It was a week of talking about the significance of the Poppy. We talked about how the use of the poppy was inspired by the World War 1 poem "In Flanders Fields". It's opening lines referring to the many poppies that were the first flowers to crow in the churned up earth of the soldiers who died in Europe. We read Poppy inspired poetry, we made poppies with our buddies and we made some beautiful poppy art that is in the classroom. We also took this opportunity to talk about how lucky we are to live in this wonderful world. We talked about the beauty of our country and how really blessed we are to have what we have. I read a story called "What a wonderful world" inspired by the song by James Armstrong. The picture has rich, beautiful, pictures and beautiful words that helped us with our own pieces of writing also entitled...What a wonderful world. These pieces of work will be on display in our gym this coming Wednesday when we will be having our annual Remembrance Day assembly. This is a very beautiful and rich assembly that the parents and family are invited to. It will be held at 1100. The children are asked to be dressed in black, whites and reds (if possible). Our class, along with Ms. Jung's class will be participating in a little poppy procession. If you havent seen it before, it will certainly bring a smile and perhaps a tear to your eye. It is very sweet. We will be practicing this on Wednesday morning. We all hope that you can come.
A big thank you to:
Kalyani (Vibodh's mom) for coming in and talking about Dawali. This is a Hindi celebration of lights that is celebrated every year in the autumn. Kalyani brought in little clay candle holders that the children painted. It fits a tea light in there perfectly. During Dawali there are thousands of lights that are lit symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It is celebrated with feasts and gifts. It was very interesting to listen to Kalyani tell us the stories and share their celebration with us.
Next week:
Wednesday- Remembrance Day celebration
- Dance with Lisa in the afternoon
- Guest visit with Elder Shane Pointe
Thursday- Professional Day- no school for the children (teachers will be at Bayview)
Friday- Remembrance Day- no school for the children
