Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed yesterdays beautiful sunshine! It certainly was uplifting for me!
Did your children look up at the sky and start talking about the clouds and the names of the different types of clouds? If they did it is because this week in the library Mrs. Whitelaw read them the book by Barbara Reid called Picture the Sky. Then they talked about the different types of clouds, cumulus, stratus and cirrus. We learned about their different characteristics and even went outside to look at the clouds and see what kind of weather we would be having...as one type of cloud formation was the "naughty" cloud, one the "nice" cloud and one that was going to either be "naughty or nice". Ask your child if they can remember which was which. This will lead to us learning about the watercycle in the near future.

This last week we also talked about the daytime sky and listened to Deana our First Nations Teacher as she read the story called Raven Brings the Light by Roy Henry Vickers. We then talked about the symbolism in the First Nations Culture of the different Daytime animals. We are currently working on our own diurnal/nocturnal posters that will show our knowledge of what she taught us.

Did you come to our assembly on Friday and see what we learned from Daniel our drumming teacher?
The children had the opportunity to have drumming every day this last week and we learned so much. It was extraordinary!! They were amazing at the assembly and I hope if you didnt get a chance to see them there, you were able to access the Fresh Grade as I did take a few video clips of them playing their drums. Thank you to the PAC for raising all the money for this program, giving us a chance to work with such a special person.

Did you know that the PAC is also planning their biggest fundraiser of the year? Yep the Gala is coming up. Im sure you have seen signs all over the school that are advertising this event. For our classrooms part, we have created the most beautiful platter. This platter will be bid on at the Gala. If you are unable to attend and you would like to put in a bid through me (as I will be there) I would be happy to bid on your behalf, just tell me your top dollar! It is a beauty this year. Also our class was given a theme silent auction box to fill. Our box is "books". So if you would like to donate a novel, a book card to a book store, something that goes with great novels, then we would happily accept your donation!

Finally, the scholastic book order forms went out on Friday. I have set up our account on line so if you would like to go there and directly order your books, and pay online then you can do that. Thank you to Manon's mom who helped set up our account. Apparently it is very easy to order books this way.

With that, enjoy the pictures and have a great Family Day tomorrow.

Deana reads to the children.

The Penguins year.

The children had to read all the information to each other and to me and then draw pictures to go with the words.

We talked about the penguin's life cycle.

A little craft that the children loved doing...we learned the difference between arts and crafts.

Writing an acrostic poem about the groundhog...come read all of them..they are amazing.

More beautiful poems and art.

Finishing up a retell on one of Barbara Reid's books.

The back of our beautiful platter.

The front of our beautiful platter.
