We had soo much fun skating on Friday. Thanks to all the parents who drove and helped with tying sooo many skates and for having fun skating with us. The children got to play some hockey and even after just one day of skating they are already showing soo much improvement. I have some pictures to share with you that im sure you will love to see! Wait till the end of this post for a lot of smiling faces!! Our last one will be this coming up Friday!
This last week we celebrated Pink Day. We had a wonderful afternoon assembly where we watched how Pink Day came to be.When one looked out at our gym...we saw the SEA OF PINK. The children were all soooo happy and excited to be a part of this wonderful day. And as Mr. T said, it wasnt just about this one day....to be bully free but for always. To think of others all the time. To do the right thing ...every day. That is what we try to do. We want Bayview to be the school that is the safe place to be. A happy place to be!! We did some writing where we told Patrick, a pink penguin, that it was okay to be Pink.He didnt have to be like the others. He could be unique and special as it was all about what's inside that counts. Take a minute to read their letters to Patrick.
In the library this week, we read a story by Barbara Reid, called Welcome Baby. We then talked about when they were born. They had the opportunity to show their baby picture to another child and talk about what you told them about them. Then they wrote!! We will have all their writing and baby pictures posted inside the class for when you come for your parent, student teacher next week.
If you havent' booked your time yet, please do so. Its a wonderful opportunity to share your child's portfolio with them and talk to them about what wonderful growth they have made since the beginning of the year. You will be sooo happy to share their learning with them.
In math the grade twos have been working on STRATEGIES....strategies for adding single digits without using their fingers or counting materials. These mental math strategies will help them when we start our double digit adding. Continue to practice memorizing doubles and asking them about the different strategies that we are doing in class.
The grade ones are looking at FAMILIES in math. they are given three related numbers, 3,7, 10 and have to create family members that belong..two addition equations and two subtraction equations. They are getting really very good at this! Ask them to show you.
Also in math we are all working on 2D and 3D geometry.
Every day we are busy reading, writing, doing math and laughing! We love school and even though some days are hard, we find time to dance! This is a lovely class and I am very lucky!
Enjoy the pictures and I will see you on Monday.
