Good Morning families,
What a lovely week of weather we had and today we have some rain to freshen up the air and I heard that the week ahead should be lovely as well! Yay!

I have lots of pictures that will posted today that will show you all the work that we have been doing. So I wont talk to much about what we did on a daily basis.
What I would like to talk about is the importance of reading daily. Reading daily with your child is very important. As you read together your child feels more confidence when it comes to reading their own work, and they become more confident when it comes to writing. The two go hand in hand. We read every day and we write every day. My goal is to have them become confident in writing by themselves. I stress the importance of TRYING, not CRYING. That it is okay to make mistakes. That by trying every time we write we get better at it. When you read together with your child, help them practice sounding out the words. Review and practice what the vowels say with and without the magic e. By reading and talking and spending time with books, you will see that this will transfer to their daily writing.
Every day the children are expected to do their home reading and then bring it back. We do DEAR (ask your child what this is) daily, and we exchange our books daily. It is then also important that they remember to get their books from their mailboxes when they leave at the end of the day. I have told the children that it is their job to put their book in the back packs and remember them. If you could help them remember that would be wonderful. The grade two's have been wonderful role models and so supportive. They are testaments to how important it is to read daily. They have come such a long way.

With that, just a few reminders:
1) It is orange shirt day on Wednesday. The topic is Every Child Matters. We will be having an assembly after recess on Wednesday where the children will learn more about the Residential Schools. Our goal is to wear orange shirts or to have something orange on to acknowledge our support of communities coming together in a spirit of reconciliation and hope because every child matters. Every one is welcome to attend.

Thank you to:
1) Everyone who donated for the Terry Fox Run and for those who came out to enjoy the run with us. The weather was gorgeous.
2) Everyone who donated items for the classroom...the washclothes, the wipes, the soap, the tissues and of course the yummy chocolate (haha)

Have a great week.
Enjoy the pictures.
