Have you had your feast yet and are now just lounging around with nice full bellies? I hope all the families enjoyed each other and talked about all things they were thankful for. We spent a lot of time talking about how lucky we are. We read Todd Parr's, The Thankful Book which inspired us to write about things that we are thankful for and why. We brainstormed things that we are thankful about and then sat down to write and do a little art around. On Friday Ms. Bailey was the guest teacher and they also worked on what they would enjoy for their Thanksgiving Feast and more turkey art. I just have to say that I am thankful for my lovely and loving class. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me.
This past week we learned:
1) About the importance of doing fitness on a daily basis. We listened to Katrin and her colleagues talk about 5,2,1 and then gave the children their booklets that they could keep track of their daily fitness. We will be watching another fitness video tomorrow to encourage our children to continue to do this, even over the weekends!
2) About Pauline and Orange Shirt Day. Thank you to everyone who participated by wearing some orange. By supporting this day you, the parents, were also supporting your child's understanding of the core competency of social and personal awareness. One of the social responsiblity competencies that we will be discussing throughout the year.
3)About mulching. We mulched our kale and talked about why it was important to mulch. Ask your child about what kinds of mulch we used and what kinds of mulches there are?
4) About the Roots of Empathy program that we will be participating in. Jung, our leader came in and shared some pictures of our little baby, Liya, and talked about some rules and guidelines that we are to follow when she is here. All the children who had a "baby" last year know the rules and were very excited to share their knowledge. Take a look at our board outside of the classroom. Our first baby visit is in November.
Finally we learned to use our words if we didn't like what was happening. That we must say STOP and then tell an adult to help solve the problem. We are still working on the importance of not engaging in a situation that could get them into trouble as well.
Have a great last day and I will see you all tomorrow.
Enjoy the pictures.
