Good Morning Parents and Children,
I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend. The weather has turned but I went for a walk yesterday and it was soo beautiful out. The mist and dew and little rain drops created some magic on the bushes. I stopped to stare at little drops of rain caught on a beautiful spider web. It was such a gift. Abby and I just walked in wonder. I hope you and your children will have the opportunity to share some walks and nature this weekend.
That was what we did on our Outdoor Wednesday class. We walked to the bog (thank you Andrea for coming with us) and just looked at the changes that had been happening since September. We noticed more water filling up the bog, that the smell in the air was fresher, that the leaves on the deciduous trees were falling and that the coniferous trees were still mostly green. We saw mushrooms, touched bark, looked at the  blueberry bushes that had red tinges on the tips of their branches, at the salal bushes that were still very very green...and wondered do they stay green all year???? We will keep an eye on that. Then I showed them one little white ground dogwood that typically grows up towards Squamish and in the woods there. And it was growing at the edge of the bog, all by itself. If you go for a walk with your child ask them to show it to you. When we got back we drew and wrote a few of the things that we saw, heard, smelled and touched. The children are learning to use all their senses and wonder when we go out into the forest/bog/outside.
Most of our week was spent talking about Peace/Love/ and Remembrance Day. What a beautiful program we had. If you weren't able to come to it, I just want to tell you how wonderful your children were! They sang so beautifully with Mr. A, they did the Poppy Procession with Ms. Jung's class so solemnly and seriously, they put a tear into my eye! The whole assembly was beautiful and for the entire hour that the children had to sit, they were so well behaved. They were so proud of themselves, I was proud of them and you would have been proud of them! I will have some beautiful pieces of art for you to see that they worked on this week.
This next week we will be finishing up our family unit, having Deana, our First Nations Teacher join us and teach us about the Cedar trees and their importance to us and the First nations people as well as work on our patterning, our writing and our growing independence in our reading. Thank you for supporting your children with the Home Reading Program. The grade one's are becoming so proud of their efforts and are wanting to read more and more difficult books! And the grade twos are reading longer and longer chapter books! They are wowing me!

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and everyone enjoys their extra days off. I will see you all on Tuesday.
Take care.
