Good Morning parents and children!
Today it is time change. It is time to Fall back. This may be the last time we have a time change....what do you think about that?
What a great Halloween night it sounds like everyone had!
It started with a week of Halloween activities and centres in the classroom. A fun Halloween Howl hosted by the PAC (so I hear from the children) and it ended on October 31st with a school wide assembly set up by Mr.T...it was so funny! and then a wonderful school parade showing off our great costumes. The children were spectacular as it had been a very busy and exciting week. That day we spent time decorating cookies, eating snacks provided by Hadley, Tea and Darian and then watching a few Halloween videos...Franklin and the Bernstein Bears. Then on Friday, despite them being very tired, they were awesome during our Coyote presentation. Ask your child if they can tell you how to identify a coyote????

Now that Halloween is over I am asking that all Halloween candy/treats be kept and enjoyed at home where they can be supervised by you. This will help support our healthy living goal. In our HEART SMART program, which I will be introducing soon, one of the concepts the children will be learning is how to make choices between healthy vs. unhealthy food choices. Please help encourage your child to make healthier snack choices for recess and lunch. It helps them keep their gas tank full for afternoon lessons. In fact if you didnt know already... our class spearheads the collecting of candy to give to the homeless shelters as well as to the outreach centres. Any extra candy that you would like to bring in to the class will be collected by us and then taken to various charities where they would welcome these wonderful treats. I have been organizing this for many years while my own children were young and we had to do something with our candy besides eating it! It gives your child an opportunity to give back in a selfless and quite an easy way.

Looking ahead ....starting Monday we will be getting ready for our Remembrance Day assembly. The theme is LOVE, and our schoolwide song will be Imagine Dragon's LOVE. I will be talking to the children about world peace and love, we will be having our first TEAM activity where your child will be divided into their colour group...and the first topic will be Peace, mindfulness and love. Our special assembly will be on Nov7 @ 11:00 in the QE auditorium. Our class will be involved in two presentations. One will be the traditional Poppy Procession..it's very beautiful, peaceful and will bring a tear to your eye. I ask that your child come to school dressed in their "pretties" black, red, white...no t-shirts with logos, something on the more formal/serious side. We "may" also be singing a song that Mr. A has been working on with them, if he feels they are ready. If they are not ready then we may save it for another assembly. We hope you will be able to join us for this beautiful event.

Finally, we have been busy in our class learning about patterns, doing patterns inside as well as outside...we have been painting Kandinsky pumpkins..they are beautiful, we have been writing monster stories and doing tons of art. I took beautiful pictures and left the camera at school. I will try to send them all on Monday so you can see the awesome things that are going on in the classroom.

At this point three things to remember:
1) School pictures were sent home so you can order if you choose, there is a due date on it.
2) No school on November 8th for a Professional Day, which leads you into November 11th which is Remembrance Day, so you will have another nice long weekend.
3) We will be going for a nature walk into the Bog on Wednesday afternoon to see Fall Changes from October. Please make sure your child wears warm clothing, hats, mittens and a warm jacket. It is getting quite cold now and some children are still not bringing their jackets to school.

And with that..have a great Sunday. I will see everyone on Monday!
