Good Morning Parents and Children,

Sorry this is one day late! I usually post the blog on Sunday’s but I left my camera at school and I had so many wonderful pictures of the children that I thought I would hold off until I could post those as well.

I would like to always post a bunch of pictures as I know that now one cannot really come into the classroom on a regular basis, and so this is a way for you to see all the great things your child is doing. However, having said that if you need to meet with me, an appointment can be set up for us to do that. Or we can equally have some outdoor chats if you are picking your child up or dropping them off in the mornings. I miss the one to one contact!

We had a great and busy week.

Our main focus this week was corn. I brought in a bunch of corn for us to look at. We were scientists studying the parts of the corn, the lifecycle of the corn and how corn is grown and what it is used for. We took our study outside and did our sketches and labeling while under the beautiful blue sky. The children really enjoyed peeling each layer of the corn back to see the little kernels hidden under the leaves. They got to touch the silk tassel and many said it felt like their hair!! We recorded our findings in our nature books…we then also did some beautiful corn writing and art combined.

Also this week we had two special presentations.

Our first one was on Wednesday where we heard Indigenous Speakers talk about Orange Day.

Many children wore an orange shirt to raise awareness that, Every Child Matters. They heard a story about a little girls experience at the residential school, and how she had an orange shirt that she was so proud of and it was taken away from her. The message of our virtual assembly was to focus on our hope for a better future in which children are empowered to help each other.

And then on Friday we talked about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. So we had two very inspirational assemblies and very inspirational discussions! The children were very interested in both subjects and asked many questions. We watched videos about his run and listened to a story about his youth and his dedication and his determination to help others. The intent was not to scare the children but to help them understand that many forms of cancer can be cured! And that all funds raised go directly to cancer research. And with that, thank you for all your donations. Our class itself raised almost one hundred dollars. So thank you very much!

 This week:

1)  1)  I will be away on Wednesday as I have a virtual workshop to attend. Mrs. Bailey (who many of the children do know) will be in on that day. Please remind the children of appropriate behaviours when a guest teacher is in.

2)   2) Off to a running start is every Tuesday and Thursday unless it is raining…make sure your child is wearing running shoes.

3)  3)  If you have not signed up for teams please do so, as our parent teacher conferences will be TEAM based! Yikes!! Not the interactive way that I operate, but due to covid, that is the way it has to be.

4)  4)  We will be looking at the sunflower seed and the sunflower plant!! Our focus is on life cycles! Next week..I think it will be garlic!! Yum!!

Thank you for raising such wonderful children. It is a delight to be teaching them! I am very lucky!!Enjoy the pictures. It has been fun taking them!!
