Good Morning everyone!
It looks beautiful out! I hope everyone can get out to play before it "snows!" I hear snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. Okay, that seems a little early, but in the events that it does snow..please send your child with appropriate clothing!! We can keep extra supplies in my bathroom area so that the children can change if they need to. That is where we keep our secondary clothing. Feel free to send extra clothing, in case your child needs them. Accidents do happen!
We had a great week last week.
We talked about Peace.
We talked about how we as young people can help out in the world. What things we can "remember" to do to make a world a Peaceful place. We talked a little about the Great War but mostly focussed on how we can be helpful and kind and be a part of society where war will not be a thing to think about. The children wrote some beautiful pieces of what they can do! We did lots of art, we also talked about the poem by John McCrae, called Flanders Field. We also really looked at the song Oh Canada and worked in teams of two to draw beautiful pictures to go with the lyrics. The children also heard a story about our Canadian Flag. It was a busy week interspersed with a nature outing. We had the privilege of a free Douglas College workshop on our Temperate Forest. We learned about a lot of plants in our Temperate Rainforest and then went on a Bingo hunt looking for samples that were shown to us. Luckily it was dry when we went! Thank you to Naomi who gave us the presentation. Also we had Mrs. Biorn come in and read a really lovely book to us about Fauja, a 94 year old (ish) man who ran a marathon. He was a man who was told he couldnt run, he was too weak to run..and he tried and he tried and he never gave up and he did! I have taken a picture of the book so you can see what Mrs. Biorn read to us.
Next week:
1) We will have a virtual Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday at 1100. Ms JUng and myself put together a lovely little slide show. I think it might put a tear in your eye. So if you join us, you will get to see it!!
2) Next Wednesday NOv. 11th is Remembrance Day so there will be no school.
3) Please sign up for Raz Kids. You have the forms, I see that only about half have signed up already. It is a great program that we have been gifted. It will definitely help improve your child's reading. On MOnday I will be sending home more Home Reading with your child, keep them till Friday.
4) Library Day is MOnday, please return any books that your child has at home, they can take out new ones on Monday.
5) We will be doing spelling on MOnday, look for the new words somewhere in your child's back pack.
And with that..enjoy the pictures. The children love being a part of this blog.
Have a great day!
