Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a great sunshine-y day yesterday!!Last week we had some opportunities to go on some little walks outdoors and were defining the differences between alive and not alive..living and non-living. Such an easy concept...but how about a log??? living or non living? a leaf on the ground?? so we spent time detemining conditions to identify living and non living things. Ask your child if they know the questions to ask? Afew pictures of the children on our bog walk.
This week we spent time looking at the plants that grew from the tiny seeds!! They grew sooo fast! HOpefully they made it home in one piece! They are all ready to be transplanted and grow and produce some yummy vegetables/fruits/flowers for you to enjoy.
This week we started our Body Science unit. In the first session we talked about what similarities and differences in all human beings. And ended our session talking about how to keep ourselves safe...and where and when we feel the safest (at this point we have not talked about the private parts...that is in about our 5th session).Session two was discussing keeping our bodies healthy and the things we do to keep our bodies healthy. We watched some videos on healthy living and lifestyle. After every session we do a little bit of writing and are putting together a little booklet that we will be bringing home at the end.. It was a busy week.
Next week:
1) On Monday we will be having a virtual author visit. The author of WE ARE KIND (Monique Gray Smith) and the illustrator (Nicole Neidhardt) will read aloud their book and discuss the key concepts and talk about hte illustations. Then they will take time for questions from the students. Make sure you ask your child about the visit. The children ae familiar with this book as I have read it a few times. They are very excited to be "meeting" the team.
2)On Tuesday afternoon, we will be participating in a school wide program called EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS SQUAD presented by DreamRider Productions. The presentation will encourage students to be emergency preparedness superheroes. If they would like to dress up as a superhero, they are more than welcome to.
3)If you are interested in Summer School courses for your child, registration begins May4h at 8am. If you need your child's PEN numbe you can look on his/her report card. To best determine what course your child might be interested in go to summer.vsb.bc.ca. If you want to ask me whether I think your child should take some courses to best facilitate them for a smooth transition into grade 2 or 3, send me an email and we can chat about it.
Finally I am posting a pictue of our platter. We have finished painting the top side...but will be working on the underside next week. The platter will be raffled off. The details will come to you later on from the PAC. It is part of the school fundraiser! It is a covetted and treasured plate that only one person can win. I hope it's you!!
and with that
Have a great Sunday. I will see everyone on MONDAY!!
