Happy Mother's Day to the wonderful mother's in our class.
Thank you for being so supportive and wonderful and special. I know how special you are because of not only what you do for me and the rest of the children in the class but because I read 21 wonderful pieces of writing that your child did about you. I watched them paint beautiful portraits of you, I heard stories about you!! So know that you are special and extremely loved! Hope today is a beautiful, glorious, family filled day just for you! The weather sure is doing it's job in making it a happy day!!

This last week we not only spent a lot of time talking about our wonderful mama's but we spent time looking at our caterpillars (larva) that will soon be making their cocoons or chrysalids around them. We have some Painted Lady Butterfly caterpillars that have grown so much since we got them. I think it is because our room is so warm that they have just zoomed into the next stage and are crawling on to the lids of the containers, forming their j shape and will be making their chrysalids. It wouldnt surprise me if they were all in chrysalid forms by the time we get back on Monday. I had to move them into their big cage...we left a few bumblebees in the cage to help simulate their natural environment!!

We have already talked about two stages of the butterfly...the egg and the larva (caterpillar) and will be talking about the next two stages soon. We will be creating a little booklet to show the stages. WE will also be talking about the parts of their body...and what makes a butterfly an insect. We will also be talking about bees and how bees and butterflies are both so important to our environment. WE need them to help pollinate all of our lovely flowers and help keep our gardens growing! Respecting nature's helpers is so important to understand!

This last week we had Deana come in and do a presentation on what the First Nations people used plants for. She brought in different medicines for the children to sniff, she brought in sage and cedar. It was a very interesting presentation. We are very lucky to have Deana share her knowledge with us.

Coming up...this Thursday is our Sports Day!!!
The theme is tropical. Your child is either on the Yellow team or a red team..so ask them their colour. They can also add tropical items to their costume...leis, colourful pants, shorts, colourful hats...sunglasses...This year will be very different in that it will be led by grade 7 leaders. We are trying it out...lets be flexible. All the students from k to 7 will be on the field at Bayview. It's something new. This year the snack will be provided by PAC as well as a hotdog lunch (vegie ones as well). If you want to send additional food besides a hotdog , and chips, then do so. There will be an early dismissal...2:00. The JKC children will be sent directly there. If you want to pick your child up even earlier, just let me know.

With that,
enjoy the pictures and have a great day!
