Good Morning and HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!!!
And what a beautiful day it is going to be today!
I hope everyone will be able to get outside and do some wonderful activities that will celebrate our beautiful earth!
Last week in class we spent lots of time talking about keeping our earth healthy. We read some stories, we watched some videos that made us feel a little sad...especially the "garbage" island ones. We all felt that we would make a very big effort to pick up garbage so that it doesnt go into the streams, rivers, and then into the oceans as we want to be a part of the answer not the problem. We took opportunities to write about what we could do, we read some poetry, we did some art and we made some posters with our buddies. What lovely children we have and I think we truly have some ambassadors for saving our earth in our class.

This last week we also planted in our garden. We know that the food you grow and can pick and eat is healthier for you. We learned that if we can buy locally (like from our own gardens) then it would reduce the amount of fuel used to transport the fruit and vegetables to our community. So on Wednesday we learned about PEAS, the health benefits of eating peas and then we read a lot of funny stories about peas (thank you Tatum) and in small groups we went and planted peas...peas can be planted directly in the garden beds and can be planted right now. Peas do like a bit of a cold snap so if you are planning to plant a little tub of peas this is the time to do it. Next week we will be learning about beans and carrots. Hopefully be the end of this unit you will have some informed eaters and excellent gardeners!

Mrs. Appleby is very excited about how the children have embraced travelling around the world. She has seen how thrilled the children have been about reporting on France and are excited about going to China next and learning about how their community compares to ours and to Frances. Manon's mom Elodie, will be visiting the class on Thursday to share her experiences of France and discussing the differences between our community and her families in France. Thank you Elodie!

Coming up:
On Monday the children will be having their class photos. I do not know the exact time but it is generally before lunch. So please make note of that.

On Thursday we will be having our Earthquake Drill. This is the LONG one. We will be going through the entire Earthquake procedures. The children will be sitting outside for quite some time. The sign out procedure will be practiced by the staff. Parents and adults are asked not to take their children out unless they go through the proper sign out procedures. Please do not go into the school early if you arrive before they are dismissed. If you have an appointment and need to leave early, then have your child taken out before the drill begins. The drill will take place around 200pm and will go till 300pm.

Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm.
Thank you for all the books that you donated! WE did not win but we are Winners. Congratulations to Mrs. Appleby's class you brought in many many books.
So because our class worked sooo hard and were also very enthusiastic I have told them that I would like to buy them pizza to celebrate their giving and kindness. We will discuss a date later in the month to celebrate this and I will let you know!
With that,
have a great day and I will see you all on Monday!
